Painter-printmaker Jacob Kainen served as the Smithsonian's curator of prints from 1942 to 1970.
At Landfall Press Kainen resurrected an interest in printmaking dating to his days working for the Works Progress Administration during the Depression, but which had been deferred during his tenure at the Smithsonian.
