G.W. Newlin: Latest Hot Dope on Clyde Marr Deal
I have been out to see Clyde, and there is a foul-up on the perimeter survey. The east boundary of this property runs directly north and south, I understand. The northern boundary, if it goes from the center of the white post at a 90° angle to the east boundary, will not coincide with the present iron fence, but will take off at an angle which would leave most of the fence and the trees near it on our property rather than on Marr's, as intended. On the other hand, if we run the northern boundary along the fence line, by the time it gets to the river, it will have cut off a good deal of the property which we think we are buying.
Clyde and I agreed that something could be written in the lease which would permit us to run the boundary as intended; that is, due west from the center of the white post and make it clear that we would not encroach on the fence or trees as long as they were standing or as long as the Marrs own the property, but this provision in the deed ought to be such that it protects both the Marrs and ourselves.
I believe that Clyde is going to see Bill Dobbins and have him write up something for us to look at. Also, he is going to contact Paul Jones to try to get him to complete the survey. I understand that, when Paul got his far on it, he quit, and still hasn't found out whether the southern boundary presents the same problem or not.
It should, therefore, be one of your jobs to keep in touch with Clyde and see what can be done tactfully to get Paul to hurry up and complete his survey, so that the abstract can be prepared and deed and money exchanged.
In addition to the above, the architect desires a topographical map of the whole land. I have sent Tommy Harrison the written specification giving exactly what Eero wants. Tommy has made arrangements through Vearl Orttel, at the Engine Company, and a guy at Seymour to do the whole job for, I believe, $300. Now that the wheat has been cut, they should proceed on this. They are not going to do the perimeter survey, but will accept Paul Jones' lines for that.

You might also get in touch with Vearl Orttel at the shop, an see when is the right time for this topographical map to be made.
The schedule on the house is as follows:
(1) This summer, Xenia and I will make up our minds as to how many and what kind of rooms we want in the house.
(2) In September, Eero and Sandro Girard will come to Columbus to commence work on the preliminary layouts, and by that time the topographical map should be complete in all details.
(3) Along about next spring, all of this should be settled and construction should commence in May or June.
Bearing all of this in mind, as well as the necessity for not harassing the Marrs unduly, I am sure that, through your famous tactful insistence, the job will get done.
