MEMORANDUM
Date: January 11,2001
To: Xenia S. Miller. Irwin Miller
From: Beverly V. McDermott
Subject: 2760 Master Bedroom Tub/Shower
Mike Bishop told me that it would be helpful to JIM if the bars in the MBR tub were thicker and thus easier to grab. As you know, at your request, we had the tub bars fabricated to match the existing towel bar. The towel/tub bars are 1' in diameter. The grab bars in the showers at Llanrwst and 153 are 1%' in diameter-the normal diameter of off the shelf grab bars. Any new tub/towel bars made in the tub room would look like the existing bars except they would be 1 W in diameter. They would be fabricated to attach to the wall in the same locations as the current bars so we do not have to drill new holes in the tile.
We might also think about:
- Adding a 36' vertical bar between the towel bar and the tub bar to make tub access easier- see attached Photo A. The bar should be at least 36' long so it can be accessed while sitting or standing.
- Adding a horizontal bar beneath the tub shower-see attached Photo B.
- Adding an 18' vertical bar on the side wall at the north end of the tub-see attached Photo B.
Please let me know your comments about making the existing bars 1/2' (or more) thicker and about adding the new bars at whatever thickness you prefer.
