MEMORANDUM
Date: February 25, 1998To: Xenia S. Miller, Irwin MillerFrom: Beverly V. McDermottSubject: BackSaver Reading Chair for JIM
You were interested in getting a 6800 BackSaver electronic lounge/reading chair to try. Kevin Roche suggested we work through the local distributor to order a 6800 chair since it is not yet in showrooms. Diana Jones, the owner of the
BackSaver store in Castleton where we bought the new executive desk chair, is willing to order a 6800 and allow you to return it if you do not like it.
Since she was going to have to order a chair, Ms. Jones asked what your color preferences were. When she discovered that you would like a bone leather chair with natural wood finish, she says she would have difficulty selling the chair to someone else if you do not like it because:
· The back side of the leather that is used on the BackSaver chairs is gray. When the leather is punctured during sewing at the seams, the gray on the back is reflected in the holes and makes the seam thread look dirty on the bone leather chair. This is not noticeable on the other darker leather colors.
· The bone leather is harder to maintain than the other colors because of its light color. Thus, the darker leather colors are more popular.
For these reasons. Ms. Jones is only willing to either:
1. Order the bone leather chair with natural wood finish and if you do not like it she will either (a) charge you a 20% restocking fee ($468) or (b) charge you for the chair ($2,338) and return your money when she sells the chair to someone else--could be several months.
OR
2. Order a chair in her choice of colors which you could try and return to her at no cost if you do not like it.

Page 2
It takes 5-8 weeks to get a 6800 chair. Thus, if you like the 6800 chair and if you select Option 2 above, it could take up to 16 weeks before you would receive the bone leather chair with natural wood trim. If you want to reconsider your color choices given Ms. Jones' comments, I can talk to her about ordering other colors that she would be willing to take back if you do not like the chair.
Please check Option 1, Option 2, Option 3, or Option 4 below. If you choose Option 1, please check either 'a' or 'b' under Option 1:
___ OPTION 1 - Wish to order the 6800 chair in our choice of colors--bone leather with natural wood trim. If we do not like the chair, we will:
a. Return the chair and pay the $468 restocking fee
OR
b. Return the chair to Ms. Jones and have our money refunded when the chair is sold
___ OPTION 2 - Wish to have Ms. Jones order a chair in her choice of colors for us to try. If we do not like the chair, we will return it at no cost to us.
___ OPTION 3 - Wish to change the chair colors as checked below which Ms. Jones might be willing to order for us with no obligation:
Leather color: Black Burgundy Cypress
Wood trim: Walnut Rosewood Teak Natural
___ OPTION 4 - Do nothing. Keep looking for other recliner options.
