Color PaletteDuring the vogue for "Super Realism" in the early 1970s, Leslie, like Chuck Close, created forceful, frontal portraits that depended on his strength as a draftsman.
Leslie's three lithographed figures done at Landfall Press in 1974, including this self-portrait, are lit from beneath endowing them with an eerie power reminiscent of the strongly lit figures of the Italian Baroque master, Caravaggio.
