Color Palette金杉橋芝浦, from the series 100 Famous Views of Edo 名所江戸百景
The view here is from the west bank of the Sumida River (Sumidagawa), near where the Ayase River flows into it, in Edo's northern reaches. Travelers to the area sought out its natural, rural delights. The branches of a silk tree (nenoki) create a diagonal overhang. The diminishing sizes of the elements, from foreground to background, produce a strong sense of recession into space.
