The inscription states: "This picture shows the scene of an attack on Nobuyoshi by Hideyoshi whose troops were quartered at Komaki. Nobuyoshi went to Mikawa and begged the aid of Ieyasu, who with a large army came to the rescue and defeated Hideyoshi's forces at Nagakute." This battle took place in 1584. On the bottom is an inscription by the designer of the vase, Nanpo Gyokuzan, of the Satsuma kiln.
