Color Palette• After playing a leading role in the Belgian Neo-Impressionist movement, Lemmen immersed himself in decorative arts during the 1890s. Soon after, he was drawn to the work of progressive French painters known as the Nabi, perhaps attracted by their emphasis on decorative surface patterns. Lemmen’s deft arrangement of geometric shapes recalls the Parisian cityscapes of Pierre Bonnard.
• Lemmen spent the remainder of his life painting intimate domestic scenes and nudes. Although this work is an exterior view, the warm orange glow of the windows hints at cozy interiors.
