Degas, perhaps the finest draftsman of the late 19th century, also produced hundreds of sculptures. Dancers were among his favorite subjects, and through them he explored a wide range of human movement, from awkwardness to gravity-defying grace.
Degas worked primarily in wax. None of his work was cast in bronze until after his death.
