Dr. Thomas Monro was the Principal Physician at Bethlem Hospital (Bedlam) from 1791, when he succeeded his father, until 1816, when he was replaced by his eldest son, Dr. Thomas Edward Monro.
Dr. Monro built an estate at Merry Hill on the outskirts of Bushey in the countryside of Hertfordshire fifteen miles northwest of London in 1805 and resided there for the rest of his life.
