Thomas Hearne (1744-1817), a leading landscape draftsman of the generation preceding Turner and Girtin, lent some of his drawings to Dr. Monro for his protégés to copy.
In 1795 Monro switched his collecting allegiance from Laporte to Hearne, whom he considered "superior to the everybody in drawing." Hearne remained in Monro's circle until his death in 1817 and was buried at Bushey, Monro's country residence after 1805.
