On stage is the climactic scene of Funa Benkei in which the warrior-monk Musashibō Benkei uses prayer to subdue the vengeful ghosts of defeated Heike warriors who threaten to send his ship to the bottom of the sea. Dignitaries seated on tatami mats drink tea as they enjoy the performance. Outside the walls, a teashop has set up a red felt mat where customers can entertain themselves next to a meandering stream.
