- Pont-Aven School artists often depicted Christian religious themes. In this two-part composition of the Last Judgment, Filiger has presented the saved souls on the left and the damned on the right.
- In the left panel, the Angel of Redemption hovers over a typical Brittany cliff, rendered in bands of flat color. On the right, the figures of the damned bear faces with long vertical lines. The central panel was never completed.
- Filiger’s emphasis on detail and his meticulous use of gold and silver set him apart from most of the Pont-Aven School. He was inspired by Italian medieval painters.
