Copyright- For this view of Meulan, a village north of Paris, the artist emphasized the flat shapes of walls and roofs as well as the fields in the distance. Painted in 1911, just as La Fresnaye began associating with Cubist artists working in Paris, the composition is a network of interlocking planes.
- La Fresnaye brightened the somber greys and browns common to Cubism by adding touches of red, green, and blue to the vista.
- The artist also softened the rectilinear treatment of the terrain, injecting the lyrical elements of gently curving, buoyant clouds.
