Brucker taught at the John Herron Art Institute in Indianapolis. A noted portrait painter, he also painted scenes of regional urban life.
Straight lines, angularity, and compressed space recall elements of Cubism, while the bright spot of vegetation on the balcony stands out as a symbol of regeneration amid the urban environment.
Monday Morning is an example of the more Modernist style Brucker experimented with during the 1940s.
