Color PaletteSteven Thomas, Woodstock, Vermont; purchased by Dr. Steven Conant, Indianapolis, Indiana; given to the Indianapolis Museum of Art in 2012.
McCormick, like Mary Mullineux, her fellow practitioner of the Provincetown method of color woodblock printmaking, resided in the Germantown section of Philadelphia and was also a member of the Philadelphia Print Club.
While The Tower does not seem to be a Provincetown subject, McCormick was a regular visitor to the end of Cape Cod and was a frequent correspondent with Blanche Lazzell, who advised her to use colors freely and rely on inspiration at the time of printing. “It is not a paying business as far as price is concerned,” she wrote, “I do them because I like to.”
