Color PaletteIn France, the third quarter of the 18th century was a transitional period in which different styles co-existed, though not always harmoniously. These sofas show an adaptation of Turkish designs to French furniture types. They incorporate the sweeping curves, scrolls, and organic forms of the rococo. Additional details such as the carved wood rails of egg-and-dart motif and banded foliage, the lamp, and the garland swags are of ancient Greek origin-and appear as incongruous additions.
