Color PaletteFrom the artist to (Downtown Gallery, New York) in 1929; {1} purchased by Mary Quinn Sullivan (Mrs. Cornelius J. Sullivan) on behalf of The Gamboliers; gift to the John Herron Art Institute, Indianapolis, Indiana, now the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields, in 1932. {1} A stamp on the verso "Jan 16 1929" is consistent with the manner in which the Downtown Gallery recorded their inventory; see Coven, catalogue raisonné section on Downtown Gallery. Fiene's association with them began in 1928.{2} The Gamboliers were a group of Indianapolis citizens who purchased modern art, mostly works on paper, with the purpose of subsequently offering it to the John Herron Art Institute.
