Color Palette- With its sturdy cottage encircled by sinuous bands of trees, this etching relates directly to the painting at left, also by Seguin. Both images rely on flowing lines to transform the compositions into flat, rolling shapes.
- While the hot colors intensify the energy of the painting, Seguin uses the contrast of inky black and white to enhance the powerful effect of nature in his etching.
- The dramatic, tortured forms may well have been inspired by the trees, buffeted by strong winds, in the coastal village of Le Pouldu. Seguin lived there during the summer of 1893, when he made this etching.
