Brangwyn's contributions to the Great War portfolio of lithographs described British seamanship in a series entitled "Making Sailors." In Youthful Ambition, a young boy looks wistfully across a harbor to a warship half-hidden in the mist. The same boy had appeared in one of Brangwyn's recent mural panels for Christ Hospital in Horsham, West Sussex.
Brangwyn and most of the other creators of the Great War lithographs were members of the Senefelder Club, named for the inventor of lithography and established in London in 1909 to advance the cause of artistic lithography.
