In the tradition of the Old Masters, Celmins gives pause to the constant chaos and motion of the seas, deserts, skies and heavens. She endows her small scale drawings and etchings with their sense of vastness by her uncompromising attention to detail and by foregoing boundaries and horizons.
Gemini hired Doris Simmelink to head their new etching program in 1983. Celmins had previously relied on Simmelink's printing expertise at Crown Point Press in San Francisco.
