Color PaletteStella's "Exotic Bird Series," with titles corresponding to extinct or endangered species, came close to his stated ambition to combine strength and formal inspiration with abandon and exuberance. French curves used by architectural draftsmen are arranged on graph-pattern backgrounds and then loaded with scribbled color and glitter.
Tyler promised the artists who he invited to Tyler Graphics Ltd. that there was nothing they could not try. Stella, in this series, took advantage of the available resources to actively merge lithography, screenprinting and the hand-application of glitterflex.
