十五世市村羽左衛門 as Iriya Naozamurai 入谷の直侍 from the series Shunsen nigao-e shu春仙似顔絵集
The police are after Naozamurai, a prominent member of the Kōchiyama Gang, and he must flee Edo immediately. However, he learns that his lover, Michitose, is gravely ill, and despite the danger he makes his way through the snow to visit her. His eyes reflect concern, introspection and determination.
