- Most prints of Breton women show them at work outdoors. This figure, on her knees in the gathering darkness of evening, has the daunting task of searching for grain left behind by the harvesters.
- The rolling rhythms of the fence and wall in the foreground, as well as the gentle curves of the tree and horizon line, exemplify the flat surface patterns favored by Seguin and his colleagues.
- Seguin used a variety of processes to give this etching a rich tonal range of gray to black. He printed this trial proof himself before having it commercially published. It became his best-known print.
