仿啟南翁筆法
Gao's inscription states that he is using the brush method of the great Ming dynasty artist Shen Zhou 沈周, 1427-1509, to portray the line of poetry:
五月江深草閣寒
"In May the river is deep and the grass pavilion cool."
The line is from a poem by the great Tang dynasty poet Du Fu杜甫 (712-770) written in thanks to Master Yan for visiting with wine and food.
