What delays your departure for a place beyond the Pass,
When your colleague is also far from home?
The songs of Wu will gradually lose their native lilt;
The yearning for a friend in a deserted valley is hard to suppress. Alluring are the orioles and blossoms on the road you travel;
My unsullied heart is known only to gibbons and cranes.
As you patiently remove your traveling cloak,
Send me consoling words from world’s end to assuage my sorrow.
