"'From a thousand cliffs, cascades scatter and fall. In myriad ravines, the trees twine and twist.' [Inscribed] on the lantern festival day in the dingsi year of the Wanli era [Feb. 20, 1617] for the literary master Hengchang's learned improvements by the single-branch recluse, Wu Bin." [tr. J. Cahill]
The couplet is from a poem titled "Farewell to a Friend in Search of the Landscape of Yue" by the great poet of the Tang dynasty, Li Bai (701-762).
