Color PaletteThe fantastically eroded rocks, contorted cypress roots, and variegated tidal pools on windswept Point Lobos provided Weston with his life’s work after he located there in 1929. These insignificant things, when shot straight on and close up by Weston, became object lessons in the anatomy of the earth.
"The camera should be used for the recording of life, for rendering the very substance and quintessence of the thing itself, whether it be polished steel or palpitating flesh." — Edward Weston [new para] When a fellow photographer began to find symbolic import in Weston’s eroded rocks, Weston stopped him: "This is the photograph of a rock."
