This print replicates a 1925 painting as a pochoir, or hand-colored print made with stencils. The sharpness of cut stencils used in pochoirs was well suited for the creation of Cubist images.
With an abiding fascination for geometry, rhythm, and abstraction, Gleizes was an early devotee of Cubism and began exhibiting with Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque in Paris in 1910. He spent 1915 to 1918 in New York with Marcel Duchamp.
