Rising majestically with a near-perfect cone shape, Mount Fuji has been a favorite subject of Japanese artists from the earliest times. Mount Fuji was a daily presence in the lives of the citizens of the shogun's capital of Edo, and it was also visible from many points along the great Tokaido Highway that linked Edo with the ancient capital of Kyoto. This second exhibition in a two-part series features 18 of the prints that make up Utagawa Hiroshige's Thirty-Six Views of Mt. Fuji. The series was completed just before his death and published the following year.
